Avenue A Teen Center Summer Events
We're excited to announce new summer programs for middle and high school students at~Avenue A!~Now's the time to register~for our summer camps~and summer experiences! Please help us by spreading the word to your friends and family!~

High School Programs
Blues Songwriting -~Summer Experience - Mondays 5:30-7pm, July 17- August 21
Learn about Blues music with local musician Russ Novotny! Students will get the chance to create an original blues song and then perform it! Cost is $25 for the 6 week session. Open to grades 9-12. Scholarships are available! Email us to register!

TV Production -~Summer Experience - Thursdays 6-8pm, July 13 - August 17~
Come make television with us! Learn about camera operation, editing, studio shows, script writing, filming live events, and more. This 6 week program is led by Dave Kirkpatrick of Cheshire TV. Open to grades 9-12. Cost is $25 for the 6 week session. Scholarships are available! Email us to register!
High School Creative Writing Club~–~Tuesdays 6-8pm
Share your writing and get feedback from other writers in our friendly, fun environment! New writers (grades 9-12) always welcome!~

Middle School Programs

BioInventor Mini-Camp!~– July 24, 25, & 26 - ~9am-12:30pm
When you think about it, nature is pretty smart! Plants, animals, and environments have amazing patterns and systems. Some of the greatest innovators in the world came up with their big ideas by emulating systems in nature. This is called biomimicry, and we’re trying our hand at it this summer! Join us as we brainstorm our~own~nature-inspired big ideas. We’ll work with guest scientists, artists, and educators to bring these ideas to life with actual prototypes!~Open to grades 5-8. Cost is $65. Scholarships are available! Email us to register.~

Camp Cooks A Lot~- Wednesdays, July 12th, July 19th, August 2nd, August 9th.~
Chefs (or want-to-be-chefs) this camp is for you! During this culinary adventure, you’ll learn how to make healthy and delicious meals and afterschool snacks! Harvest food from the Ave A garden and practice making everything from breakfast sandwiches to scrumptious smoothies. Local chefs, bakers, and gardeners will visit to teach us their favorite recipes, and each camper will leave with their~own~recipe book! Open to grades 5-8. Cost is $45. Scholarships are available! Pick Up Basketball~- Wednesdays 7-8pm - at the Antrim Town Gym in AES
Open to 7th and 8th grade boys! Bring your gym shoes and come practice your skills!~

Programs for Middle & High School
Cooperative Game Club~– Mondays 5:30-8pm
Come play awesome new cooperative board games (think zombie apocalypse, murder mysteries, and beat the clock escape games!) with game gurus John and Mark! Open to 8th grade and up!~
Chess Club~– Mondays 6-7:30pm~(meets every other week - check our Facebook page)
Open to all skill levels... Learn~chess, find opponents to play against, and improve your skills.~Chess~volunteer Steve teaches strategy and is always willing to play a game or two!~~
Teen Open Hours~–~Fridays from 6:30-9pm
Teens ages 13-18 are invited to join us for pool, foosball, Xbox games, snacks, karaoke, and all-around awesomeness!

Special Events

The Vine Story Hour “Animal Tales” –~Thursday, August 3rd~at 7pm
Join us for an evening of storytelling based on NPR’s MOTH Story Hour. Admission is by donation. Proceeds benefit Avenue A.
